We’ve done it again! We’re delighted and deeply honoured to be shortlisted in the catalogue marketing campaign at this year’s Music Week Awards for our T.Rex campaign.

Working on the T. Rex project has been a true privilege — from celebrating Marc Bolan’s legacy with the blue plaque unveiling to sharing the excitement of unearthing the previously unreleased track, ‘I’m Dazed’.

Being shortlisted recognises the passion, creativity, and teamwork behind this campaign, and we’re grateful to everyone who supported and championed it. Thank you to Demon, Music Week and all the fans and supporters for helping us keep the legacy of Marc Bolan & T. Rex shining brightly.

After 50 years in the vaults, two exclusive T. Rex recordings have been unearthed and fans are about to hear Marc Bolan like never before.

Demon Music Group have released “I’m Dazed”, a completely unheard T. Rex song recorded in 1975, alongside a rare take of “Billy Super Duper.” These treasures were recently discovered on forgotten studio tapes, giving a remarkable new window into Bolan’s musical world.

The unearthing of ‘I’m Dazed’ has proved a mystery for Bolan devotees, who only heard rumours of a possible recording. From newly discovered studio tapes from the period, the track was first laid down at the famed Château d’Hérouville studios near Paris in March 1975. Moving on from France to Germany, T. Rex recorded this second version on 22nd April at Musicland Studios in Munich. With Marc producing and Reinhold Mack (Sparks, Queen, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones) in the engineer’s chair, the track features the classic mid-‘70s T. Rex lineup of Marc, Steve Currie, Gloria Jones, Davey Lutton, and Dino Dines.

Martin Barden, consultant to Demon Music, who discovered the tracks said: “While cataloguing some old T. Rex tapes, I spotted tracks I’d never heard before. When we played the reel and Marc’s voice came through, it was magical. To unearth this completely unheard track, ‘I’m Dazed’, after 50 years, feels like finding hidden treasure and is a true gift for fans. This song was recorded when Marc was living an itinerant life, hopping across borders and continents – and producing some of the most innovative music of his life. It is such a pleasure to be sharing new music after all these years.”

The “I’m Dazed” track has been mixed from master tapes by acclaimed musician and sound wizard (and T. Rex superfan!) Steven Wilson and comes backed with an unearthed studio take of a Bolan rarity ‘Billy Super Duper’. Both tracks will be available to stream and download on September 30th with a very limited edition 7” single launching on 7^th November.  

The two unheard tracks coincide with a major moment of recognition for Marc Bolan’s enduring influence, as English Heritage today unveiled a blue plaque at Bolan’s former home at 31 Clarendon Gardens, Maida Vale, London, commemorating his extraordinary contribution to British music and culture.

The ceremony, held on what would have been Bolan’s birthday, was led by legendary Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman CBE. The guest speakers were Martin Barden, Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), Captain Sensible and Rat Scabies (The Damned) in celebration of Bolan’s life and legacy. 

Yes keyboardist and PRS Members’ Fund patron, Rick Wakeman CBE, said: “I am pretty sure that if Marc is with us in spirit today he’d be absolutely thrilled to see the blue plaque and probably would write a song about it. Marc was a truly remarkable person, with an extraordinary clarity of vision about what he wanted to achieve — a quality that made him unique across so many musical, fashion, and artistic forms.” “To think that after all these years, we’re still discovering unheard T. Rex tracks like ‘I’m Dazed’ and ‘Billy Super Duper’ is just incredible and proves how deep and rich his creativity really was.”

BBC Radio 3 presenter and English Heritage blue plaques panel member, Petroc Trelawny, said: “Marc Bolan was not just a hitmaker, he was a visionary who led a glitter-drenched revolution that transformed the sound – and style – of the 70s, both in the music scene and beyond. His fusion of folk roots, electric rock, and decadent style opened the door to glam, and his fearless self-expression paved the way for future icons. This plaque in Maida Vale marks the building he called home at the peak of his artistry: from here, he captured the imagination of a generation.”

If you’re new to vinyl or just looking for some top tips to keep your vinyl records in tip top condition, please read on:

• Clean your records: Vinyl records are not manufactured in a sterile environment and even new records may contain dust and other particles that could hamper your listening enjoyment. To clean vinyl records, start by brushing away loose dust with an anti-static brush, then gently wipe with a microfiber cloth and vinyl cleaning solution, focusing on the grooves and avoiding the label. Do not use harsh or abrasive chemicals or cloths – use materials specially created for vinyl records.
• Counterbalance your tonearm: To properly counterbalance a turntable tonearm for vinyl playback, you’ll need to first ensure the anti-skate is set to zero, then carefully adjust the counterweight until the tonearm balances horizontally when lifted from its rest. Once balanced, you can adjust the tracking force (downforce) and then set the anti-skate to the desired value.
• Set the correct speed: Vinyl records spin at different speeds, primarily 33 1/3 RPM, 45 RPM, and 78 RPM, with 33 1/3 and 45 RPM being the most common today. 33 1/3 RPM is standard for 10-inch and 12-inch records, while 45 RPM is used for 7-inch records, though some 12-inch records also spin at 45 RPM. 78 RPM was the original speed for early phonograph records.
• Skipping Tracks: Avoid manually moving the stylus across the surface of the record to skip tracks, as this can cause scratching and damage to the grooves.
• Playing with a worn or misaligned stylus: Using a worn or misaligned stylus (needle) can cause excessive wear on the record grooves and affect sound quality. Regularly inspect the stylus for signs of wear and replace it when necessary to ensure optimal performance and minimize damage to the records.
• Exposing to direct sunlight: Keep vinyl records away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can cause warping, fading, and damage to the vinyl material. Store records in a cool, dry environment away from windows and heat sources to preserve their condition.
• Store records vertically: Store vinyl records upright in a vertical position to prevent warping and damage to the edges. Avoid stacking records horizontally, as this can lead to deformation and affect playback quality.
• Don’t touch the playing surface: Avoid touching the playing surface of vinyl records with your fingers. Oils, dirt, and debris from your hands can transfer onto the record and affect sound quality. Always handle records by the edges or the centre label to minimize the risk of contamination.
