Purple Electric Violin Concerto was originally released in 1992 sold over 80,000 copies and gained a cult following worldwide.
Having studied Fine Art at Oxford University, Ed Alleyne-Johnson designed and built his own 5-string electric violin, and developed a unique style of multi-layered playing using digital delays and effects pedals, while busking on the streets of Europe.
Ed was contacted by ‘post punk’ band New Model Army and was asked to play session violin on their single ‘Vagabonds’. The single was a hit and Ed joined the band on tour staying with them for five years for several albums and over 200 concerts.
He often opened New Model Army gigs with live solo violin sets, and this led to the recording of the solo instrumental album, “Purple Electric Violin Concerto”. Radio 1 airplay and an appearance on “Later… with Jools Holland” drove sales.
Conceived by Ed to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the album, this new package features the whole of the original “Purple Electric Violin Concerto” re-mastered on disc one, with a second CD of the album re recorded in 2012 to show how it has changed and developed as a piece of work over two decades.
All original artwork has been designed by Ed and the 24 page booklet includes extensive liner notes by Ed as well as many rare pictures. Slipcase packaged 2CD.
