Continuing Edsel’s reissue programme of the ten solo albums by country superstar Kenny Rogers, released on the United Artists and Liberty labels at the height of his worldwide popularity between 1976 and 1983.
This fourth package contains Kenny’s albums from 1980 and 1981. A concept album about a cowboy, all the songs on “Gideon” were written by the singer Kim Carnes (of “Bette Davis Eyes” fame) and Dave Ellingson. The stand-out track is Kenny’s hit duet with Kim “Don’t Fall In Love With A Dreamer”, while the hit bonus track “Love The World Away” was recorded for the John Travolta film “Urban Cowboy”.
Preceded by the massive worldwide hit “Lady” (now added as a bonus track), “Share your Love” was produced by Lionel Richie, the first time he had produced anybody other than himself or The Commodores. The musicians include Ray Parker Jr and members of the Commodores, while the backing vocalists include none other than Michael Jackson and Gladys Knight & The Pips.
The booklet is extensively annotated by Country Music People contributor Tony Rounce.
