Fulson has always just trailed the vanguard of the cutting-edge. While not the founder of the West Coast Blues, nor the first electric blues guitarist, he was not too far behind. Not quite in the class of Willie Dixon as a songwriter (who is?), Fulson's contributions to the "Blues Canon" include such immortal stalwarts as BB King's showstopper "Everyday I Have the Blues", the Elvis Presley and Eric Clapton staple "Reconsider Baby", and Otis Redding and Carla Thomas' (as well as Salt-N-Pepa's) "Tramp". Strangely anonymous for a man of his accomplishments, perhaps Fulson's lack of personal fame is explained by his odd ability to compose the signature tunes of people more famous than himself.
