Birmingham Sunday Mercury
As I should know, once you’ve been a member of highly successful bands, it can be hard to avoid those achievements overshadowing your subsequent creative activities. Nesmith was once a member of TV’s most infamous manufactured group, The Monkees, a household name the world over.
But Nesmith spent a far greater period of his life producing often groundbreaking, and never less than challenging, music in his solo career. This double CD package is a good representation of his work since splitting from The Monkees in 1968.
Amongst the three dozen songs here you’ll find Rio, Casablanca Moonlight, Navajo Trail and Julianna, plus five live recordings of what are probably his three best compositions – Joanne, Different Drum and Silver Moon.
