Continuing our programme to re-issue the classic late 70s/early 80s albums recorded for Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff’s Philadelphia International label. All the releases feature packaging containing expert annotation and photos.
The Stylistics enjoyed massive worldwide success throughout the 70s on the Avco label with hits like “You Are Everything”, “Betcha By Golly Wow”, “Star On A TV Show” and “You Make Me Feel Brand New”, all produced and written by Thom Bell. In 1979, The Stylistics signed up to Gamble & Huff’s empire. These three albums were issued on PIR’s TSOP (“The Sound Of Philadelphia” subsidiary label in 1980, 1981 and 1982.
Gamble & Huff re-united the group with Thom Bell, as well as engaging other PIR heavyweights in Dexter Wansel & Cynthia Biggs, and Joseph Jefferson & Charles Simmons.
All three albums charted on the R&B and Pop charts, and included several hit singles, most notably “Hurry Up This Way Again” and “And I’ll See You No More”. There’s also a great cover of the Sandie Shaw hit “Always Something There To Remind Me” and The Intruders’ “United”.
