Melanie's fifth album “The Good Book” was released in February 1971 and charted at # 9 in the UK and # 80 in the US. It features “The Nickel Song” (US # 35 and yet another US hit for the New Seekers) along with covers of Dylan's “Sign On The Window”, Phil Ochs' “Chords Of Fame” and Judy Collins' “My Father”. The bonus track is a rare b-side that appears on CD for the first time.
“Gather Me” (October 1970, UK # 14, US # 15) features Melanie's biggest hit “Brand New Key”. Not only did this perennial tune reach # 4 in the UK and # 1 in the US, but it also enjoyed a 1976 visit to the UK # 1 slot in the form of The Wurzels' “Brand New Combine Harvester”! The album's stand-out track “Ring The Living Bell” reached US # 31.
Released to coincide with Melanie's 60th birthday on 3rd February 2007, these two albums have been unavailable for many years (and never in one package). They are now issued with all the elements of the original sleeves intact along with a lengthy sleevenote by Record Collector contributor Alan Robinson.
