In a world where music is digitised for a pastime, sometimes it's gratifying to go back to basics and hear things without that omnipresent electronic tinkering. On the Beginner’s Guide To World Acoustic we explore the possibilities of acoustic music from an international perspective. Our acoustic travels are spit into three categories.
There are female performers represented by the likes of Portuguese fado star Mariza, Israeli Ladino singer Yasmin Levy, and sultry Greek sensation Athena. For the men we have deep Malian blues from Boubacar Traoré, cool Brazilian bossa from Vinicius Cantuária, and shimmering kora from Toumani Diabaté. The bands have a strong East European flavour with gypsy legends Taraf de Haïdouks, Poland's euphoric Warsaw Village Band, and Croatia's Darko Rundek, amongst other equally enthralling unplugged favourites.
