Formed in 1980 from the ashes of the Two Tone label act The Bodysnatchers, The Belle Stars supported The Clash, Madness, The Beat, The Police and Elvis Costello before being signed to the legendary Stiff label in 1981.
The Belle Stars enjoyed seven singles chart entries from 1982 to 1984, including "Iko Iko" (# 35, and a # 14 hit in the US when it was used in the film “Rain Man”), “The Clapping Song” (# 11), “Mockingbird” (# 51), “Sign Of The Times” (# 3), and “Sweet Memory” (# 22).
This compilation features every track issued on Stiff, including all 11 singles, and every track on their album (a #15 chart hit) that hadn’t already been issued on a single. Also included as a special bonus are all eight 12” re-mixes.
The packaging features memorabilia from the band’s own collection and is comprehensively annotated.
